Our Training Programs

As part of our nonprofit mission, Women's Animal Center works not only to place animals in new homes through adoption, but to keep them there by providing affordable veterinary care - as well as low-cost dog training classes and behavioral resources for both dogs and cats - to our community. Discounts on dog training classes are offered to all Women's Animal Center adopters.

Integrating a new pet into your life can be a new and exciting challenge.  The more work you put in up front in dedicating time and effort to training and setting expectations, the more you and your pet will enjoy the years to come together.

Dogs, in particular, tend to require a significant investment of time, and corresponding lifestyle adjustment on the part of the adopter.  Sometimes the most well-behaved animal makes noise, tracks in dirt on his paws, sheds on furniture or clothing, requires clean-up, and an investment of financial resources to cover food, enrichment toys, veterinary bills and boarding. For most of us, this is small price to pay in return for the joy and enrichment that sharing a life with a dog can bring.  There are accompanying demands of pet ownership, and the transition from a controlled household to one with a dog can be overwhelming.

Even if your dog already has reasonable manners, enrolling in a professional training class is a fun and structured way to teach him or her new skills and discourage and decrease unwanted behaviors while providing you valuable tips, insights and the camaraderie of fellow dog owners. Most importantly, training builds the bonds of trust, communication and understanding between you and your dog.  Women's Animal Center is committed to using humane training methods that help to foster the human-animal bond.  Our trainers utilize rewards-based methods that are rooted in the sciences of animal learning and behavior to help you and your pet live a happy and harmonious life together.
